In the Episcopal Church, the service of Confirmation provides an opportunity for people to make an adult affirmation of their Baptismal vows (which for many, were probably made by parents and godparents). It involves a Bishop laying hands on the person, and making them a full member of the Episcopal Church. Or, in "receiving" them from another liturgical faith tradition (i.e., Roman Catholic, or Orthodox), whose Bishops fall under the apostolic succession (since St. Peter served as the "head" of the Church).
Preparation for Confirmation consists of a series of classes that provide a chance to learn more about the Episcopal faith and its traditions. This year, we plan to use a new resource called The Newcomer Collection, produced by the Episcopal Media Center. Sessions will be held on Saturdays, beginning in late February at 10 a.m. We have programmed seven sessions together (February 23rd, March I st, 8th and 29th, April 5th, 12th and I9th.
Then on April 26th, members of the eight Seabury Deanery parishes will gather and celebrate, as candidates for Confirmation and Reception are supported in this new step in their faith journey. They'll need all our support-so let's help them out!
