St James Quilters

St James Quilters create the beautiful quilts that are provided to each child living at Covenant Shelter.  Do you know how to quilt or want to learn?  Please join our group that meets on the second Thursday of every month at 10:00 AM in the parlor room of Seabury Center. Bring your lunch to stay until 2:00 PM.  There is also the Thames River Quilter (Bee) group that meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the parlor room.  Bring your own lunch!

Region Missionary
The Episcopal Church of Connecticut has organized the diocese into six regions (replacing the former deanery organizations).  For the Southeastern Connecticut region, which consists of sixteen parishes, our missionary is the Rev. Rachel Thomas.

Rev. Thomas' statement:  I am honored to be serving as the SE Region missionary.  I love this region.  I know God's mission is too big for any one of us, and have found great joy in sharing it with others. I want to share with you the "4 C's" that are at the heart of what I am doing as a Region Missionary:

I am a Catalyst: sharing ideas and hopefully sparking our common imagination as we engage together in God's mission of reconcilliation.  I am on the lookout for those who are Catalysts on the local level, so that I can encourage them and share their ideas in the Region.

I Convene:  hosting and gathering Episcopalians and anyone else who may have a perspective or resource to share.  Who would you like to "bring to the table" to build on an existing ministry?  Let's get together and pray and talk and imagine what God might do next.

I Connect:  parishioners sharing interest in building networks around a particular focus of ministry; parishes with others in the Region engaged in God's work of reconcilliation (even if they don't call it that); all of us wiht the wider Church as a part of ECCT.

I expand our Capabilities to be disciples and apostles of Jesus: as we pray together, and seek to discern Jesus' voice amidst all of the other voices in this world, and then experiment together with ways of carrying forth God's love into our neighborhoods.

St. James has had a pivotal and vibrant role in New London.  You have lived out each of these 4 C's in your care for each other and those around you in New London (and beyond).  As God has now called us to walk together, I know you will have much to offer to our common life.  I look forward to this next step learning from each other as we proclaim Jesus' good news that "the kingdom of God has come near."

The Southeast Region of ECCT now has its own monthly newsletter, The Bridge. Click here for the current issue.   If you would like to subscribe, email our missionary Rachel Thomas.
